# Staking Architecture

Axiom uses a share-based staking model identical to established [DeFi vaults](/protocol-design/axiom-prime/vault-mechanics.md).

When a user deposits XRP into the vault:

* They receive aXRP based on the current share price
* Their governance weight increases accordingly
* Their position grows over time as the share price rises
* Their XRP never leaves the vault

The vault manages:

* Total underlying assets
* Total share tokens
* Share price calculation
* Deposit and withdrawal logic
* Resolution lock enforcement

This model preserves fairness, supports large numbers of stakers, and keeps gas costs low.
